The lights can be seen at a distance of 300 miles from the air and 80 miles from the ground. The two-billion candlepower beams are the brightest continuous source of the man -made light in the world.

Press Release Memo for Empire State Building Corporation from Jay Scott: The Empire State Building beacons nightly flash out their message of welcome and freedom to the residents of seven states as well as travelers at sea and in the air. Visible at 300 miles from the air and 80 miles from the ground, the beacons produce a combined total of two billion candle power. Located at the base of the four sides of the Empire State's TV antenna 1092 feet above the streets of Manhattan, the lights weigh a ton each.

For Release: Wednesday, p.m. November 27, 1957 - Dedicated Big Brother Headquarters: Mayor Robert F. Wagner will dedicate the new Big Brothers, Inc. Headquarters at 223 East 30th Street, Wednesday, November 27 at 4 p.m.. Other dignitaries include Borough President Hulan Jack, State Comptroller Arthur Levitt, Former Assistant Secretary of State G. Howland Shaw and others will participate. Building was a gift of the Charles Hayden Foundation and was furnished and equipped by the Heckscher Foundation for Children.
